Our former captain says Pep Guardiola’s men remain in a great position, even though the Selhurst Park stalemate could allow Liverpool to reduce our lead at the top of the table to one point if they win their game in hand against Arsenal.
City endured a frustrating night in London, where, despite creating a host of chances, we were unable to break the deadlock against the spirited home side.
However, whilst the result gives Liverpool an opportunity to close the gap, Morrison feels it was a point gained and was encouraged by the quality of City’s performance.
“Palace were excellent, they were very good in what they did,” he said on Matchday Live.
“It wasn’t our night but it’s a point towards the title as far as I am concerned.
“It’s one of those days and it’s great credit to them. We’ve had chances, like the Bernardo Silva one.
“The energy was there, the desire from the players is there as well also and that’s what impressed me. Everyone was at it. It wasn’t a flat performance, it just didn’t quite click.
“Give them a bit of credit and be humble enough to say they have done a job on us but it’s still a fantastic position to be in.”
Crucially, City’s fortunes remain in our own hands.
Guardiola’s side know that if we win our remaining games, we will be crowned champions for the fourth time in five seasons.
That gives Morrison confidence, though our former centre-back acknowledged the Eagles’ impressive performance was a timely reminder of how difficult life can be in the Premier League.
“If we were a point behind and we had to go to Anfield, I wouldn’t be as positive,” he added.
“But the manager, the bench, the experience and the performance excited me because Rodrigo was getting frustrated, they were chasing after the ball, there was an energy and they knew the importance of it.
“It’s a title challenge. It’s to win the Premier League and it’s not going to be given to you and it’s not going to come easy.
“It’s fantastic and to win it would be an incredible achievement and something that everyone would look back on and say, ‘what a title race’. That’s what you want.
“Everything is still in City’s hands.”
